History: The Bay Village area was originally home to Erie Indians around the 1600s. Lake Road, a main road in Bay Village, is a Native American trail of historic importance. Ohio became a state in 1803, and the land traded hands until after the Revolutionary War. In 1810, the City of Bay Village was settled by Joseph Cahoon as part of the Dover Township, and the Village stayed as a part of the township until 1901. Bay Village remained unincorporated in 1903, when the city’s first council and mayor were elected.
On January 1, 1950, Bay Village rang in the New Year by officially became a city. At this time, the population of Bay Village was 6,917.
