History: Located in the Western Reserve, Brecksville was born in the early 1800s. Colonel John Break journeyed to Ohio along with several eastern partners. Attracted by the area’s prospects, the Colonel bought fertile land in 1807.
After men were sent to survey the land and ready the area to be settled, Seth Payne, a surveyor, returned to the land in 1811 with his family to begin acting as Colonel Breck’s land agent. Within 12 months, an additional 6 families settled in Brecksville, and more soon followed. With a small but steady population growth under way, Brecksville was officially founded in 1811.
While Colonel Breck never actually lived in the area, 3 of his sons called Brecksville home. The last descendent of Colonel Breck was Dr. Theodore Breck, a great grandson of the Colonel who practiced medicine in the area until his death in 1934.
Brecksville became an incorporated village in 1921, then gained city status in 1960.

Location: Brecksville is found at Cuyahoga Country’s southern border in northeast Ohio.
