Overview

ABOUT Hudson

Hudson, Ohio began as a colony of Connecticut in 1632. Later, this area was known as the Connecticut Western Reserve. The Reserve was sold to a land syndicate in September of 1795.

In 1799, a survey team was sent to the area, and on June 26, David Hudson came to the land that would eventually become Hudson Township. David Hudson returned with his family to stay permanently on May 28, 1800. His house is still standing, and the settlement was officially named after the area’s first settler in 1802.

After the Civil War, the town’s population increased little by little. When 1900 rolled around, the population neared 940, then increased to 1,324 in 1930.

The Village of Hudson and Hudson Township were two separately governed areas between 1837 and 1994, when residents voted to merge the two into the City of Hudson. The turn of the 21st century saw a major population increase of 335%.

Out of over 22,200 residents, 48% are male, and 52% are female. With a high number of older residents, the median resident age sits at 45.5 years, and the estimated median household income comes in at $127K.

Hudson’s population is comprised of 91.4% white residents and 4.3% Asian residents. 1.7% are Hispanic, and 1.2% are black. 1.2% are biracial, and 0.14% are of other ethnic backgrounds.

The city’s population is highly educated, with 70.7% of residents holding a bachelor’s degree and 31% having achieved a graduate or professional degree. Only 3.3% of residents are unemployed.
