Los Angeles is among the world’s busiest, largest, and most unique cities. In 2018, the city had a population of 3.99M. Los Angeles is California’s most populous city and is the second most populous in all of the U.S.

The early settlers of the territory that later became Los Angeles were indigenous tribes that included the Tongva and Chumash hunter-gatherers. On September 4, 1781, 44 village settlers of African, European, and Native American descent set up a farming village in the area known as “The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels of Porciúncula.” In 1847 Los Angeles became part of the U.S.

With its annexation of Hollywood in the 1920s, Los Angeles grew to become the world’s leading center for the entertainment industry. The city’s picturesque locations and sunny and temperate weather continue to attract film scouts and visitors. In 2019 Los Angeles ranked third out of more than 200 best cities for outdoor activities in America.

Los Angeles enjoys a diversified and thriving economy. More than two million people are part of the city’s workforce and most of them have white and blue-collar jobs. 10.4% of employees work in office and administrative support occupations. Others hold positions in sales and management. Employment in the city grew by 0.70% in 2018.
