MIDDLE
Ensign Intermediate School at 2000 Cliff Drive: Ensign Intermediate School is considered both a middle school and a junior high school. It is the closest public school to Newport Island that serves seventh and eighth grade students. Ensign successfully prepares each student for their high school years. School officials and teachers not only care about the students' learning, but also they care about the students getting involved in extracurricular activities. Ensign has a variety of after school clubs. It has a great athletic department. These activities help students practice discipline and figure out what their interests are if they are unsure. Newport Harbor High School at 600 Irvine Ave: The closest and one of the most prestigious high schools near Newport Island is Newport Harbor High School. This high school about two miles away. Newport Harbor has been awarded various recognition for being successful at helping students meet academic standards and growing the students into scholars. One of the awards include the California Distinguished School award. The school won this award because of its amazing education in career technology, performing and fine arts, and physical and nutritional health. Most of the students are testing proficient in the standardized assessments. Also, Newport Harbor has numerous extracurricular activities available after school.
PRIVATE
Carden Hall at 1541 Monrovia Avenue: Carden Hall is a private school that serves students in grades kindergarten through eighth. This school was founded over 50 years ago. It is faith-based institution that teaches academic subjects and Judeo-Christian values. Although it teaches elementary, middle, and junior high students, this school has a small number of students. There are only over 400 students enrolled. Carden Hall has smaller classrooms. School officials believe that this is beneficial to the students because they receive more one-on-one attention from instructors. Also, students are able to get to know one another better. Despite the school size, Carden Hall has plenty of sports teams and clubs. Pacifica Christian High School at 883 West 15th Street: Pacifica Christian High School is a private school that also offers liberal arts curriculum. It is a faith-based school. Student read religious and non-religious texts to learn more about the world around them and the history behind it. This school supports the students in developing their own opinions and being able to express those opinions respectfully. Pacifica is considered a college-preparatory high school because it has several classes that prepare students for college courses.
