Overview: Ohio City is a bustling neighborhood located just outside of Cleveland’s vibrant downtown. Ohio City has been home to many notable figures, including former President James A. Garfield and athlete John Heisman. Today, the Heisman Trophy is still located in Ohio City and it’s awarded annually to the best college football player. Location: Ohio City is located in western Cleveland, just outside of the main downtown district. The Cuyahoga River runs along the eastern border of the neighborhood and Lake Erie marks the northern border. The surrounding neighborhoods are Downtown Cleveland to the northeast, Tremont to the east, Old Brooklyn to the south and Detroit-Shoreway to the west. Ohio City is a short 10-minute drive to Downtown Cleveland, so residents can easily take advantage of everything the city has to offer. Ohio City is home to many popular attractions, including West Side Market, the Greater Cleveland Aquarium, Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica and Wendy Park.
Commutes: With Downtown Cleveland just a ten-minute drive away, commuting from Ohio City is easy and convenient. Residents can hop on the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway to head east towards Cleveland or west towards Edgewater Park and Lakewood. For those who travel for work, Route 42 runs through the eastern part of Ohio City and takes commuters south to the suburbs of Parma and Old Brooklyn. The neighborhood is also close to Burke Lakefront Airport, and residents can be there in as little as 10 minutes. The neighborhood is mostly made up of young professionals with families making up a smaller percentage of the population. The average age of male residents is about 36 and the average age of female residents is about 33. Most residents were born in Ohio or another U.S. state and about 13.9% of the population were born outside of the U.S. About 12.7% of Ohio City residents have attained a high school diploma or equivalent, 11.4% hold a bachelor’s degree and 3.4% hold a master’s degree.
