Overview

ABOUT Peninsula

Peninsula, OH was first settled in 1818. Settlers were attracted by the convenient location next to the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland and Akron. The village began to prosper even more so after the completion of the Ohio and Erie Canal and the Valley Railroad.

Herman Bronson designed the village’s layout in 1837, and by 1887, Peninsula included multiple mills, several stone quarries, and more than a few boat yards. The historic district of the village has multiple examples of 19th century architecture, and other homes display Greek Revival architectural features that were popular in Peninsula’s early days.

In 1880, the population was just under 500. From 1890 to 1910, there was a steady population increase, but the population declined from 1910-1930. After WWII, the population began to climb again until it reached 692 in 1970. From there, another negative population growth trend continued.

In today’s times, about 560 residents call Peninsula home.

Of about 560 residents, 51.3% are male, while 48.7% are female. The median resident age is 42.8 years, which is above the Ohio median age of 39.3 years.

98.1% of residents are White, while 0.9% are biracial or multiracial. 0.4% of the population is Black or Asian, and 0.4% are of Hispanic descent.

34% of residents have a bachelor’s degree, and 22% of residents have a master’s degree or above.

The unemployment rate is about 4.5%. Also, the estimated median household income is $84K, and the estimated per capita income is $40K.

Peninsula Homes for Sale

With a cost of living index of 88.9, it is relatively affordable to live in Peninsula. This number in part is due to recent home sales, real estate numbers, and home value estimates.

As expected, considering that the population of Peninsula has a high number of families, a large portion of housing options are detached family homes. Vacant land ready to be new construction can also be found in the village’s borders. While apartment complexes are scarce, smaller apartment buildings are in Peninsula as well.

Generally speaking, residences in the village run on the larger side of the spectrum. 3 bedroom properties are commonly found, while housing options with 4 or more bedrooms are also popular. Meanwhile, smaller residences with 1-2 bedroom layouts are less prevalent. Apartments in Peninsula are generally smaller options with few bedrooms.

A large portion of the village’s land is comprised of green spaces, so any property is likely to have impressive outdoor views.
