Overview
ABOUT Fairlawn
The Fairlawn area was an uninhabited stretch of land until a hamlet was founded back in 1891. Progress was slow at first, seeing as the hamlet only included a blacksmith, a mill, and a general store among other small local businesses.
In 1958, residents gathered together and agreed that they needed to be incorporated into a village to grow further, which led to Fairlawn becoming a village. At the time, the population was under 6,000. During this period, the village elected a part-time government led by Fairlawn’s first mayor, Joseph Poticny.
By 1970, there were enough residents for Fairlawn to be newly reclassified as a city. After this status was achieved, a special election was held in July 1971 to choose a charter form of government.
In modern-day Ohio, Fairlawn is home to over 7,400 residents and is a shining example of what positive changes can come from exploring new ideas and avenues of progress.

With a median household income of over $66K, 51.4% of residents who are 25 years old and above have bachelor’s degrees, and 16.1% have graduate or professional degrees. Additionally, 2.6% of residents are unemployed.
