In the past, the neighborhood has reported massive damage to property following strong winds and heavy downpour that inundated streets and homes.

The Newport Coast area is not only identified as a very high fire hazard severity zone, but it is also located adjacent to wildlands with a very high fire hazard risk.

The area is at high risk of earthquakes, with a total of about 3,889 earthquakes that have occurred in the neighborhood since 1931. The USGS says there is a 91.5% chance of a major earthquake within 50km of Newport Coast within the next 50 years.

Commute

The neighborhood is close to the Pacific Coast Highway, making it easier to travel to other parts of Newport Beach such as Laguna Beach, Corona del Mar, and Balboa Island. The Pacific Coast Highway, which is within the California State Route 1 (SR 1), runs along the Pacific coastline of California.

SR 1 is considered the longest highway in the state. Newport Coast has access to this route, along with the other portions of the route such as Cabrillo Highway, Coast Highway, and Shoreline Highway. Close to the neighborhood area, the San Joaquin Hills is a lovely coastal low-mountain range.

Serving students in grades seventh and eighth, Ensign provides opportunities for students to excel outside of the classroom with extracurricular activities. The school offers electives such as art, choir, orchestra, French, Spanish, robotics, and life skills for teens. Ensign also has a athletic department with sports including volleyball, basketball, cross country, soccer, and much more. Its Gifted and Talented Program (G.A.T.E.) strives to meet the needs of high-ability and gifted students. Corona del Mar Middle School at 2985 Bear Street: Also within a seven mile radius of the Newport Coast neighborhood, Corona del Mar Middle School is great option for middle school students.
