Overview: More than 9,700 in the population, the Newport Coast community is known as the “Pacifica Riviera – Where Nature’s Palette is at Work.” This elegant, world-class neighborhood is full of natural beauty and is considered one of California’s best beach communities. Location: Newport Coast is located in the southern part of Newport Beach, close to the Pacific Ocean. About seven square miles of it is land and about 0.2 square miles of it is water. It sits between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach within Orange County. Newport Coast is surrounded by breathtaking coastal canyons and gorgeous landscapes. It is in the San Joaquin Hills above the Crystal Cove State Park, which is about 3.2 miles of the Pacific coastline. The neighborhood was originally a separate census-designated area in Orange County before 2001 when it was finally considered apart of Newport Beach.

Commute: The neighborhood is close to the Pacific Coast Highway, making it easier to travel to other parts of Newport Beach such as Laguna Beach, Corona del Mar, and Balboa Island. The Pacific Coast Highway, which is within the California State Route 1 (SR 1), runs along the Pacific coastline of California. SR 1 is considered the longest highway in the state. Newport Coast has access to this route, along with the other portions of the route such as Cabrillo Highway, Coast Highway, and Shoreline Highway. Close to the neighborhood area, the San Joaquin Hills is a lovely coastal low-mountain range.

Middle Schools

Although there are more private middle schools than public school for students in the Newport Coast area, Ensign Intermediate School is the closest one within the seven mile radius. Serving students in grades seventh and eighth, Ensign provides opportunities for students to excel outside of the classroom with extracurricular activities. The school offers electives such as art, choir, orchestra, French, Spanish, robotics, and life skills for teens. Ensign also has a athletic department with sports including volleyball, basketball, cross country, soccer, and much more. Its Gifted and Talented Program (G.A.T.E.) strives to meet the needs of high-ability and gifted students.

Also within a seven mile radius of the Newport Coast neighborhood, Corona del Mar Middle School is great option for middle school students. The school administration monitors students’ grades and behaviors, especially with those who want to participate in different extracurricular activities. Plus, Corona del Mar Middle School has an awesome athletic department that offers cheerleading, soccer, track team, cross country, tennis, football, and many more options. Founded in 1930, Newport Harbor High School is an International Baccalaureate School and has an outstanding reputation of providing great instruction to its high school students. The school has academic departments such as academic support, arts, mathematics, physical science, special programs, and world language. Newport Harbor even has career technician education, which provides students with technical sand academic skills and training to prepare them for a careers in marketing computer science, finance, and management. Students can participate in the Associated Student Body (ASB) Student Government. This group helps plan dances, school events, club, and improve co-curricular programs and student finances.

For high school students living in the Newport Coast neighborhood, Corona del Mar High School is another secondary education option. This high school helps prepare its students for college education by offering college-preparation courses such as Advanced Placement (AP). Corona del Mar High School has many varsity sports for fall, winter and spring seasons. Sports include football, cross country, basketball, water polo, baseball, and lacrosse. The school even has a varsity surfing team.
